The Green Lantern animated series is winding down. As I was clearing space off of my computer I found this Darkseid turn we did for Warner Brothers Animation's Superman/Batman Apocalypse back from the DTVs. I did the initial design and Jeff Johnson (*johnsonverse) did the actual turn.

When we were going through the approval process, we were instructed to make his head bigger. But director Lauren Montgomery (~LaurenMontgomery) decided to revert him back to the original "small head" version when she did her attitude sheets. That's why she is a badass in my book haha.

I've adjusted the model and proportions to the longer and less squat version and did a quick shadow treatment on it.

Awesome design.

I'm usually against characters looking too massive (especially if going into Liefeld style effect), however with Darkseid I fully agree that he needs to look both imposing and powerful.

Overall Great Design!

Especially when you have characters next to each other it becomes more apparent if proportions work as a whole or not. When you have a character that's 8 feet tall but has a big head next to a guy that's 6 feet tall with a normal head, the 8 foot guy just looks like a giant baby. Thanks for the comment!

I'm doing a character study on DC characters to show how I see them as to one another. For example I think Superman should have move athlete or swimmer physique rather than a bodybuilder, since his strengh depends on the quality of muscles, not their mass. I generally like the Timm-verse design, however it often too much Y in male chars.

When it's finished I'd love to hear your comments on it :3
