Nice, I'm happy to see you post some more. I know you're busy with director work and stuff but your art is amazing.

I was working from memory when I posted, the artist is named Canete and he was ether your contemporary when you worked in comics or came shortly after. I have been a fan of your comics work back in your humble beginnings and even tried to learn from you back in your itchie message board days. Pleasantly surprised when I see your name as director. I think you worked on a Starship Troopers movie and maybe the Batman? Interesting to hear about the process you work as a director, maybe you could do a journal post on your experiences. Thanks for the answer.

Wow crazy, I am always surprised when people mention that old message board! Eric and I have been good friends for a long time. I personally don't see it but maybe in a subconscious way, I am? I was influenced by fashion drawings when I was younger and liked the long skinny proportions. Maybe that is what you are correlating? I guess we both draw angular also? I don't know I am shotgunning haha.

Did you and Canete work on the Batman together? From what I remember of Canete's early work, his style was e!ongated, exaggerated, high contrast b&w work. I think that period was reflected in his work on Eon Flux and I believe the Animatrix. I see some of those qualities in your current art. It's longer more high contrast motion/action orriented with a more spartan approach to detail. Admittedly since I have a fondness for those Image comics you both did the earlier styles have stuck in mybheead more. Both of you have changed as artists since these days.

BTW, the old itchie boards were the best.

Is there a bit of Eric Calliente here or am I just seeing things? I always thought you were a master of the pencil and nothing has changed since you've moved on to other things. As a director do you do any drawing as a part of your work. Tim Burton does a lot of drawing as a part of his work or at least it looks that way judging from past interviews.

Eric Calliente? I am not familiar with that artist. As a director I still draw but it's mainly just visual notes and corrections; some would call them scribbles :p . It's very rare I get to do anything remotely finished. I would assume Tim Burton has a lot of say in the designs of his movies since his biggest strength is arguable visual development. On the projects I am involved with the stylization is dictated by the character designers. All of the main characters are set by them. I mainly oversea shot selection, acting, editing, and storytelling aspects. Even though I approve designs and color with the producer, I have more of a direct hand in the storyboards and that is all drawing.
