Warner Brothers Animation's Superman/Batman Apocalypse hit the shelves last Tuesday. I had the good fortune to be asked to do the designs for this movie. Even though I don't consider myself a character designer, it was a lot of fun and a lot of stress trying to emulate Michael Turner's style. Special thanks goes out to *johnsonverse for doing a ton of the heavy lifting with the finishes, turns and, and incidental designs.

I'll post the other main characters once I finish my work for the week.

i'm glad they chose you as character designer in Turner's style. you did a fantastic job. it would have been great if he could have seen the animation

Thanks Dan! It was an honor a little stressful. But also a lot of fun trying to quantify what makes someone's style. I couldn't quite get it right but hopefully it was close enough. I've met him a few times, the first was when he was an amateur waiting in line for a critique, and he had always been very kind and gracious. Even after he became the rockstar we all knew him as. It would have been nice to be able to ask him if he hated it or not haha! And how I could have done things closer to his style.

That's awesome that you bumped into him! Personally, I never know what to say when I meet my art heroes.

When I first heard the film's art would be in the style of the comic, I was thrilled.

However, I do think Steigerwald's coloring integrated itself so much into Turner's S/B work (and unfortunately colorists that magnificent are hard to capture in an animation). And that's what people forget when comparing your emulation to turner's original because, as far as the pencilling goes, it's spot on. But of course, you wouldn't be an artist if you felt your pieces were perfect.
